Full Text

Whimsical Mistake. A immense Treasury Document, (says a letter writer from Washington,) was this morning laid on the tables of the Members of Congress. On examination, the document, was found to be a very exact and particular statement of the Monies received, for various purposes, at each Custom House in the United States during the late War, forming a stout volume. Nobody could tell what it was printed for, or who ordered it, till Mr. Silsbee, of Massachusetts, said, that he offered a Resolution at the last Session, which was adopted,—requiring the Treasury officers to prepare and have printed a statement of the Custom House Monies of last year. By some slip of the Pen, the year became war and hence the cumbrous and useless document.
