State Farm Bureau Director Suffers Injury As Auto Upsets Near Panaca On Way To Meeting.
Because he held up his arm to protect two feminine members of the party and himself from shattered glass, Cecil Creel, director of the state Farm Bureau, had his arm broken yesterday morning when the car in which Miss Orpha Miller, extension agent, was driving a group to Pioche for the annual Lincoln county bureau meeting upset, landing upside down.
John H. Wittwer, district extension agent for Clark and Lincoln counties, and Mrs. Mary Stillwell Buol, were the other members of the party. Creel, the only one of the group to be injured, was sent to Salt Lake City by train, his arm broken in two places, two bones of the same arm.
The remainder of the party were able to attend the bureau meeting, and to return last evening to Las Vegas. They will go to Overton today to attend the annual Clark county Farm Bureau meeting.
Miss Miller, Mrs. Buol, Prof. V. E. Scott and George Hardian arrived in Las Vegas late yesterday evening and Wittwer was expected to arrive later, or early this morning.
They will drive to Overton in the Farm Bureau car, the wrecked auto being Miss Miller's personal car. The meeting in Overton will open in the middle of the morning, closing with a business and social session in the evening.
The accident yesterday occurred four miles south of Panaca, while the party were going to that community. The car got into some loose gravel in the middle of the road, Miss Miller stated last evening.
P. W. Duffin of Caliente was the first to reach the scene of the accident after it occurred. He took Creel, Mrs. Buol and Miss Miller to Caliente, where they were cared for.
Miss Miller was driving about 25 miles an hour when the accident occurred, she stated. The machine was damaged but little, with the exception of the top and glass.
