Trial of Rev. E. A. Berkeley
Dr. Berkley, well known here, who has been on trial during the past few weeks in St. Louis, for alleged improprieties with a child eleven years old, has been unanimously acquitted.—After the court pronounced a verdict of not guilty the friends of the Doctor crowded around and congratulated him on his final acquittal. Hands were shaken, and there seemed to be universal rejoicing at the result.—The judge likewise took him by the hand, and in other ways expressed the gratification he felt in sending him again into the world the same pure confiding, honest old man his friends believe him to be.—Washington Republican.
