As the Washington High Bulldogs wrapped up their first week of action on the hardwood, they have posted a 1-and-1 won-lost record, with a victory over the Howard Rams and a defeat from the South Fulton "Lions."
The blue and white Bulldogs nipped the Howard High "Rams," 45-42 in a thrilling contest. The Rams broke to an early lead over the Bulldogs to lead, 9-4 at the quarter and 19-17 at the half. Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs spurted in the final quarter when Hubert Austin hit for 12 points, which added to six more by his mates were too much for the Rams' 13 points.
On January 6, the Bulldogs had their schedule balanced with a defeat at the hands of the South Fulton Blue and Orange Lions, 59-55. The Lions led from the beginning to the end, with the highest score being a one-point lead by the Lions late in the fourth quarter.
High point honors at Washington High for the past week were shared by Hubert Austin with 29 points; Andrew Vaughn with 22 and Willie Johnson with 20.

The lassies of Washington High made a clean sweep for the week, with victories over the Howard girls, 42-41 in an overtime thriller, and the South Fulton co-eds, 33-31.
During the course of both games the Washington High lassies were forced to play at peak performance to overcome the opposition and they were successful both times.
In both games it was the sharp-shooting of Roberta Berrien that gave the Washington lassies the edge over their opponents. Berrien ended the week with 58 points.
