Mayor Had a Complex Problem to Solve.
A large portion of Iron street's population was in Police court Tuesday, connected in one way or another with the cases of the Smiths and Jenkinses, charged by Mrs. Clara King with disorderly conduct.
Mrs. King was on the stand telling how she was annoyed while preparing to move to Barberton. "And Mrs. Jenkins shook an ax at me and made threats," she said.
A dismal groan came from the Smiths and Jenkinses, which seemed to say, "Ah, what won't she say next?"
It made the Mayor cross and he caused Chief Durkin to be summoned to prevent further expressions of the kind.
The case was replete with contradictory testimony, and, although L. S. Pardee, Esq., for the defense, and Prosecutor C. C. Benner, for the State, argued at great length, Mayor Doyle could not see how he could possibly get the proceedings straightened out sufficiently to give a decision before afternoon. Judgment was therefore made at that time.
The other disorderly conduct case in which charges are made against Mary Smith and Lizzie Jenkins by Mrs. E. Lewis, was continued one week. It has been pending since May 29.
