WATER SYSTEM CAUSES CITY PEOPLE WORRY
Commissioners Fear Springs Are Going Dry and Many Favor Resorting to Artesian Well for New Supply-
Fund Started For Sinking Well.
(Special Correspondence.)
Athena, Ore., April 14.-The city of Athena is still having trouble with its water supply. A report from the books of the city recorder who is the secretary of the Water Commission show a deficit of nearly $150 for the last four months beginning with December the first.
The people who have seen the report are very much surprised as the general understanding from the Commission has been that the cost was $100 per month.
The people are now convinced that they must do something if the water Commission does not. The Water Commission has been dallying with the proposition for the last six months and the patience of the city is being sorely tried.
It is the opinion of the Water Commission that the springs that have been furnishing the water have gone dry and that there is no water to be had from those springs any more. Some of the citizens think the water is still there and that the pipes are clogged up and the water is being lost. Going on the assumption that the water supply for the springs is lost some of our citizens are in favor of trying for artesian water and a fund has been started to pay the expense of putting down a well for that purpose.
