Topeka, May 20.—Dispatches were received here from Elgin, on the southern border of Kansas, stating that a posse of citizens who left Cedardale Friday morning in search of the Starr gang of bandits, who are terrorizing southern Kansas, came upon the robbers in a clump of bushes on Caney creek, 10 miles south of that place, in the Indian Territory, and a running fight for two miles was participated in, in which one of the bandits was crippled and the horse of one of the citizens shot from under him. The wounded bandit was shot in the leg, but he was not dangerously wounded and was able to keep in his saddle and make his escape with the others. Citizens are still in pursuit of the robbers.
