The summer seems to be going all too fast, and before we know it, school days will be with us again. The summer maintenance program is going along well. All the schools will be clean and in good repair by August 15. The main items of maintenance this year have been the roof on the elementary and high school buildings, re-decoration of the teacher housing units at Starr school, re-painting of the agriculture shop, trim painting on the high school, installation of new sidewalks around the gymnasium and between the high school and the K. W. Bergan school, installation of a flag pole at the K. W. Bergan school and remodeling of the elementary school kitchen.
All teaching positions but three are filled. The vacant positions are high school English, home economics and kindergarten. All possible sources are being utilized to find candidates for these positions.
The schools are planning to assist a U. S. Public Health research unit study nutrition problems on the reservation. The research team will be in the Browning school on September 12 and 13. Full information will be supplied all parents soon after school starts.
The pre-school workshops for teachers will be held on August 28 and 29. Registration will be on Wednesday, August 30. Lunch will be provided for boarding school and bus students on Thursday, August 31.
