THE RECONSTRUCTED STATES.

In another article we state that some of the Reconstructed States have cast their votes for Seymour. Information received since that article was written convinces us that all the Reconstructed States, except Louisiana, have voted for Grant. We thought it very singular that they should vote against him: for the whites—who are disfranchised, are under abject military power, and the negroes are under the control of the Union League and Negro Bureau. That all those States should vote Democratic, under such circumstances, is simply a moral and physical impossibility. To secure those States to Radicalism, the Rump Congress impeached Johnson, manipulated the U. S. Supreme Court, resolved southern society into its elemental parts, and ruthlessly trampled upon several important provisions of the Constitution. It is sheer folly to suppose that, after having done all this, the Radicals would permit these States to vote for Seymour. The Radicals are welcome to their black allies.

Event Details

Some Reconstructed States initially reported to have voted for Seymour, but updated information shows all except Louisiana voted for Grant, as whites are disfranchised under military power and negroes controlled by Union League and Negro Bureau, making Democratic votes impossible; Radicals secured this through impeaching Johnson, manipulating Supreme Court, and trampling Constitution
