Full Text

Extract of a letter from New York, March 29.

A few days ago the 16th regiment embarked and sailed from hence for Pensacola. Some of the soldiers of this regiment having bound themselves, by an oath, that they would carry off a part of the new Liberty Pole with them, boldly made an attempt upon it, under cover of the night; but, being discovered, they were soon put to flight by the inhabitants, some of whom watched, under arms, until these irregulars were gone. The behaviour of Colonel Robertson on the occasion hath gained him the good will of the inhabitants.
