R. Teague announced only
The figure set a new all-time high record, both for the year and likewise for the month of December, which embraced the holiday volume. December revenue was $9,640.25, or $1,224.36 over the $8,415.89 in 1941.
Last year's volume was almost twice as much as in the depression year of 1932, just ten years ago.
A steady gain has been shown in each year since then, as follows: 1933, $36,939.14; 1934, $41,215.03; 1935, $45,273.65; 1936, $48,925.19; 1937, $51,600.74; 1938, $53,878.19; 1939 $54,695.03; 1940, $57,329.59; 1941, $61,808.40, 1942, $68,125.95.
Statistics show only cash transactions and do not include the vast amount of "franked" mail passing through the post office from local government agencies, which was considerable in the aggregate.
For years the post office has shown a trend in which every month or even year, with only two or three exceptions, showed an increase over its corresponding month the year before.
