America's greatest gospel singers, all united in one deluxe package, will appear in afternoon and evening concerts here today at the City Auditorium. The first appearance of the noted artists will end at 3:00 p.m. with an evening show scheduled to follow at 8 p.m.
The array of singers is a virtual who's who of the nation's finest religious interpreters of songs that pre-date slavery and which have enriched in recent years into a Negro heritage.
This show-stopping package of gospel singers - first ever to tour the United States - includes Clara Ward and the Ward Singers of Philadelphia, Pa., the Soul Stirrers of Chicago, Ill., Original Gospel Harmonizers of Birmingham, Ala., the Caravins of Chicago, Ill., Nightingales of Philadelphia, Pa., Five Blind Boys of Montgomery, Ala., the Harmonizing Four of Richmond, Va., and Georgia's own star favorites, the Swanee Quintet of Augusta.
Herman Nash, Atlanta's gospel promoter is presenting this troupe of outstanding gospel singers in conjunction with Ward Alexander, Inc. The show billed as "The Gospel Cavalcade of '57" has drawn SRO crowds everywhere it has appeared since opening its U.S. tour August 15 in Baltimore, Maryland. Some 40 engagements will be played in leading cities of nation. After the Atlanta engagement, "The Big Gospel Cavalcade of '57," will appear Monday night, August 26 at the City Auditorium, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Tuesday, August 27, Bell Auditorium, Augusta, Ga.; Wednesday, August 28, Arena, Alabama State College, Montgomery, Ala., and August 29, Municipal Street Ball Park, Jacksonville, Fla.
