divided support of the rank and file.
His standing among the workingmen,
however, is not one whit different than
his standing among a more financially
fortunate class. To all he is George
Okell without the prefix of "mister,"
and with the middle name "Washing-
ton" the candidate thinks he is suffi-
iently endowed with titles.

HE POSSESSES A CLEAN RECORD
After even so brief a comment on his
public life and history it seems scarce-
ly necessary to dwell upon Mr. Okell's
character. It is sufficient to state that
his name and character are clean and
have been kept aloof from any under-
takings which could reflect discredit
upon their owner.

The demands made upon Mr. Okell
by virtue of his position with the
Lackawanna Iron and Steel company
have not deterred him from lending his
influence and support to many of
Scranton’s semi-public and wholly
public organizations. To his unselfish
efforts and willingness to work where
duty calls him, is due in a great degree
the success of many local organizations.
In this respect the fire department
might be mentioned. Mr. Okell has
been a fireman since he was a boy and
was at one time foreman of the Lady
Washington company. He is at present
an active and one of the most valued
members of the Phenix Hose com-
pany.

Since Mr. Okell began an active can-
vass about the city and county pro-
testations of support and predictions of
success have come unsolicited from all
classes of people. This fact of itself
might be construed as the keynote of
Mr. Okell's hope for election, his
popularity being confined to no partic-
ular constituency.
