Full Text

BALL-AND-CHAIN -- Senator Josiah William Bailey is strengthening his political fences against possible attacks by Governor Ehringhaus, former Lieutenant Governor Richard T. Fountain, Congressman Lindsay Warren, Congressman Frank Hancock, or other potential enemies in 1936. Mr. Bailey is not letting the public escape notice of his interest in affairs of the "peebul" as his term approaches the shank. Raleigh is unable to understand the apparent close relation between Senator Bailey and his Man Friday, Herbert Gulley. Mr. Gulley may be able to render the Senator a great service from the State-wide view but his unpopularity around the Capital City has not boosted Mr. Bailey's stock one point.
