Full Text

Extract of a letter from a gentleman at the Isle of France, to his friend in Philadelphia, dated 5th July, 1806.

"A French frigate has arrived at Port South-East, with a very valuable prize. English East-India Company ship, bound from China to Europe, fully and richly laden. We have not heard what her cargo is composed of, but it must be immense, as she is a ship of 1600 tons, well armed and fought the frigate (carrying 44 eighteen pounders) during two glasses and a half; she was separated from her consort in a gale of wind; the frigate and privateer are out in search of the other."
