Full Text
Up in California, where eastern civilization has slowly permeated the frontier barbarity of the people, a mob organized last Monday morning and, after overpowering the guard, took a prisoner charged with murder and hanged him to the rafters of a saloon. This crude administration of justice is absolutely inexcusable where the machinery of the law is adequate to deal with offenders, and its invocation is a disgrace to the people of the Golden State. We suggest that the Christian societies of Arizona send missionaries to California to labor with its barbarous people in the hope that they may, in time, become as moral and law-abiding as the citizens of this Territory.
