Yesterday the Democrat of the County had what they called a Convention, which was rather an interesting affair. It was called as a "District Convention," composed of the Counties of Dubois, Martin and Pike, to nominate a candidate for State Senator. After attempting to run it as a District Convention and without doing anything, it was adjourned, and it was organized as a County Convention. As soon as it took that form, Mr. G. B. T. Carr, Esq., offered a resolution that the Delegates from Dubois County be instructed to vote for Judge Baker for Circuit Judge, and for C. S. Dobbins for Prosecuting Attorney, where-upon Mr. C. Doane moved to amend by adding the name of M. C. Kerr, which the mover accepted; and the vote was then taken and Tiger voted aye and one voted no. The resolution was then declared carried. Whether the instructions were for Mr. Kerr for Judge or Prosecuting Attorney I do not know, as the resolution, as passed, did not state. Of one thing I am certain, Mr. Kerr is not the choice of the Democracy of this county for Congress. The court-house clique are for him with one exception, but the masses say he has had the office long enough for a man of his caliber. He has had the office six years, and except some six long-winded prosy speeches, he has done nothing but for which he has drawn $3000. Enough, surely.

It is the general opinion that the Convention was a farce, and not a good farce either. Hon. Leroy Cave, a good clever man, got the vote of the County for Senator, but owing to the farcical character of the meeting, I do not believe the decision will be acquiesced in, either for Senator or the Congressional instructions, if that is what "inserting the name of Kerr" meant. I have no doubt Hon. S. K. Wolfe would carry the County to-day if a fair test was had. I do not believe the delegates will regard the "instructions" as binding. MACK.

We copy the above from the Clark county paper to show what misrepresentations will be resorted to in order to accomplish the defeat of an aspirant for office. All here know the above article was not written by any resident of Dubois county, and as far as Hon. Kerr is concerned does not express the views of any one in the county. The motion in the convention was that a resolution be inserted with those carried on the subject of instructions, instructing the delegates from Dubois county to vote for Mr. Kerr as the choice of the county for Congress, and the motion was unanimously adopted,--after which the resolution was drawn up and placed upon the Secretary's table. There was no dissenting voice on the adoption of the resolutions, and nearly all of the large number assembled joined in the vote of aye.

We doubt whether there was a resident of the county in the convention who was not in favor of Mr. Kerr's re-nomination, and we have yet to hear, or hear of, the first Democrat in the county expressing preference for Mr. Wolfe, or any other gentleman, for the position now so ably filled by Mr. Kerr at this time. Our people universally recognize the fact of his great experience and acknowledged ability, and that the Democracy of the nation are now in the years been in a minority, and is now likely to be elevated to a controlling position, where its greatest talent will be necessary to successfully direct its course, and its most influential men be in requisition,--and so feel that "it is bad policy to swap horses while crossing a stream." --knowing that no new man, however talented, could wield as much influence as Mr. Kerr at present. We assure the Democracy of the 2d district that there is not the slightest division of opinion among the Democracy of this county as to who should be the next Democratic candidate for Congress.--and any one can soon ascertain the fact by mixing with them.

The instructions were a mere matter of form --offered because candidates for other offices were being instructed for. The county would have voted for him in convention without them. We say this in justice to Mr. Kerr, knowing that individually he used no efforts to secure an endorsement, but that his pre-eminent position among the leading Democrats of the nation have given him a strong hold upon the feelings of our people.
