BUT
ALAS, BEFORE DERBY

Anyone entering the Wrangell king salmon derby and wanting a few points on how to catch the big ones should contact Rex Zimmerman, Taro Ogawa or Lance Ingle.

Believe it or not, these two 13-year-olds and one 14, latched onto a 37-pound red king last Saturday and what's more, landed it -- with light sport tackle. Of course, the light rod took a beating but after playing the silvery beauty about 45 minutes it was finally gaffed and brought in. Perfect team-work made it possible. Lance hooked the fish, Rex reeled him in and Taro gaffed and pulled it in.

Just too bad the derby wasn't officially open last Saturday - anyway the lads have given the oldsters, or experts, something to shoot at - a 37-pounder on sport tackle.
