UNITED STATES.
NEW YORK, January 24.
It is to be lamented that at most of our elections, a supineness and inattention prevails among our best citizens, which is seriously alarming to every well-wisher to his country. Can any man who reflects one moment on the importance of the sacred right of suffrage, ever neglect to exercise it? Does not every thing now dear to us turn upon this pivot? Is not every thing to be expected from a good—every thing to be dreaded from a bad representation? And can it be a matter of indifference, whether the first commercial city in the union is to appear with reputation or disgrace in the national government? For shame! For shame my fellow-citizens! Let every man of you conscientiously consider, how much he has to answer for, who neglects to vote? That he is participes criminis of all the political mischiefs that may happen to his country: he is a political parasite, nay worse, a political suicide of his own most invaluable rights.
