NEWBURGH, JULY 17.

Robbery.—On Sunday morning last, a man who calls himself Peter Davis, entered the field of Peter Cotant, a respectable farmer of Plattekill, Ulster county, took out fifty-two sheep, and drove them to this village, and yesterday sold them to the butchers and got his pay. On Monday morning Mr. Cotant missed them and came in pursuit, and soon found how they were disposed of. The peace officers of the village, and a number of gentlemen, immediately went in pursuit of the thief. He was found about seven miles from the village, brought in, examined, confessed the fact, and was committed to prison. The sheep were returned to the owner.
