Harding Admits One to Citizenship Over Examining Officer's Protest
Over the protest of Assistant United States Attorney Walter B. King, examining officer, Federal Judge Justin W. Harding yesterday granted the petition of Sverre Ellingsen Vikanes for admission as a citizen of the United States.
Mr. King was granted an exception to the ruling of the court.
Vikanes is a native of Norway. He is employed on the lighthouse Tender Cedar and one of his witnesses, who vouched for his eligibility to citizenship was Capt. Leslie Leadbetter, commander of that vessel.
Mr. King's objection was based upon answers to questions concerning an automobile accident at Ketchikan recently in which Vikanes was reported to have been involved. He said he was convinced Vikanes had not testified truthfully regarding his sobriety on that occasion.
