Among all the settlers about the little country town of Dripping Springs, in the adjoining county of Hays, none are better known and more highly esteemed than Dr. Pounds, a practicing physician and most estimable gentleman. Hence his many friends will regret exceedingly to hear of the painful accident that occurred to him in this city about 4 o'clock a. m. yesterday. He had registered at the Avenue hotel and in company with a friend, Capt. Jas. M. Hunter, of Edwards county, had retired to his apartments at rather a late hour. The room assigned them looked out on East Hickory street, and to the pavement below was a distance of some fifteen feet. How the accident occurred nobody can say, but the fact is the doctor fell from the window to the hard stones on the street beneath, receiving severe injuries from the fall. It may be that it was done in a fit of somnambulism, or was the result of a too convivial time in the early part of the evening.

One of his wrists was broken, and the other badly sprained; his knee cap was terribly bruised, and his face badly cut up. He was unconscious when found, and Capt. Wilson, the proprietor, was at once notified. Drs. McLaughlin and Litten were called in, and, later on, the sufferer was carried to the house of Col. Crow, when Dr. Wooten was also called in.

The reporter was unable to ascertain whether any internal injuries were sustained, in which event the condition of the unfortunate gentleman may prove very serious.
