On next Tuesday Holmes county voters will go to the polls and elect a United States Senator. Every person should consider it a solemn duty to exercise his right to vote and do so. It is a privilege not enjoyed by all people in the world.
Most of us are so concerned with the war and its outcome that we are prone to think an election not important. We should bear in mind the fact that people now being elected to the United States Senate will undoubtedly be there when peace is written and will have a say-so in its terms. Bearing that in mind we should conscientiously try to send the biggest man to Washington as our representative.
Being United States senator is something more than an honor and a good job. We should try to send our biggest man there.
We want to urge all our readers to gather together every bit of scrap rubber, metal and other materials around the house, and bring them to town Saturday. A large scrap pile will be made downtown for all to see. Durant has been divided into eight districts and persons in the residential sections are urged to contact the captain in their section and cooperate to the fullest extent.
Senator Bilbo painted the darkest picture of the war we have heard yet in his speech here last week. He said that he expected it to last five or ten years and that we are fighting a delaying and losing war playing for time. He said the Japs have twelve million men trained for battle and that the Axis nations have thirty million.
