Our children are certainly becoming acquainted with their community. Classes have recently made trips to the Seaquarium, Spanish Monastery, Bakeries, Miami Diaper Service, The Rare Bird Farm and Tropical Hobbyland. These experiences are provided to correlate classroom activities with things as they really exist.
The school-wide Reading Clinic is in full progress and is proving most delightful and successful. Reading is our most important tool and should be fun, rather than drudgery.
Our Parent Conference was very successful in attendance and in results obtained by explanation and pledged cooperation.
Mrs. L. E. Thomas, fifth grade teacher, left for Washington, D.C. as a representative of the National Association for Childhood Education. We extend best wishes for a trip replete with inspiration and information to Mrs. Thomas.
We present an orchid to Miss E. C. Thomas for her courage despite physical discomfort. She is trying to adequately perform her duties as cheerfully as usual. We extend our prayers for her complete recovery.
PERSONAL TO PARENTS
Dear Parents:
This reporter saw on Easter Sunday children who looked like beautiful flowers. Of course, this incurred many hours of hard work and sacrifice to accomplish.
An observation was made which inspired this thought - Are you training the children to take care of the nice things you buy them?
One little girl, a perfect vision of loveliness in white organza with all of the accessories, was racing down the street on a bike and the sleeve of her new dress almost ripped out.
Every day our office is swamped with sweaters, coats, note books and ribbons. The children never inquire for them and we have to send them around to find the owners. Don't you miss these things and inquire for them?
One of the most valuable habits a person need possess is thrift. It is sinful to be deliberately wasteful. Please help us to develop this important character trait.
