RICHMOND, JUNE 1.

A very melancholy adventure was witnessed a few days since within a few miles of this city. A negro, suspected of having set fire to a small house, was charged with the act; and on being threatened with corporal chastisement, he deliberately put his hand into his pocket, drew out a razor, and ripped open the whole front of his belly. Unfortunately, a mortification took place, and the poor wretch died. A very respectable young Physician was sent for, to inspect the body, and in the act of sewing up the abdomen, stuck the needle in his thumb—gangrene came on, the arm swelled to a considerable size, & his life was despaired of. The last accounts represented him as something better.
