Putnam Board of Finance is to recommend a budget totaling $221,442.50 as submitted by the Board of Selectmen, for consideration at the annual town election-meeting in October, following a public hearing on the projected budget last Wednesday night in the town building.

Outstanding accounts on the budget include a request of $109,822.50 for general government, and $109,600 for the Board of Education.

The former represents an increase of some $10,000 although the 1946 figure included two non-recurring expenses which amount to $5,500. The first is a request of $5,000 for establishment of a service center for returning veterans and the second of $500 for a welcome home celebration.

pointed out that the bulk of this money is to be used for teachers' salaries. In addition, however, it was explained that repairs of the school property, increases in the cost of coal, school supplies, and health examinations as required by law, swelled the figure. In addition a request of $2,000 for an architect's fee for a proposed addition to the high school building, is also made.

All members of the Board of Selectmen were present at the meeting, as well as Supt. of Schools John A. Langford and School Committeeman Justin A. Smith, together with Archibald Macdonald, Dorothy J. Bartlett, Whitman Danielson, and William J. F. Rafferty, members of the Board of Finance.

Genevieve Delisle is clerk of the board.
