Monumental Church.

This magnificent building was first opened on Wednesday last by the morning service read by the Rev'd Mr. Buchannan, and a beautiful & impressive Discourse from the lips of the Rev'd. Mr. Wilmer on the Duties of the Ministry and of the Laity. On Thursday Evening, the Evening service was read by the Rev. Mr. Mead, & a Discourse was uttered by the Rev. Mr. Norris.

The Vestry of the Church have appointed the Rev. Mr. Moore of the City of N. York, as Rector of this Parish, with a salary of $2500, to be raised by an assessment of 15 per cent on the first cost of the Pews -- The Convention of the Episcopal Church, now sitting in this City, have ordained Mr. Moore, as Bishop of the Church of Virginia. Thus the Church of Richmond will become, as Mr. Wilmer termed it, "the metropolitan Church" of the Diocese.

What wonderful transitions! A theatre, the resort of the animated and the gay, the voluptuous and the young -- behold, in a few short months, it disappears -- and in its place, arises a Temple dedicated to the worship of the Living God. By what wonderful revolutions is this change effected? But it is not for us to open the heart-touching theme. -- The subject is in abler hands. He will do it ample justice.

The Rev. Mr. Mead will preach on Sunday, at 11 o'clock, at the Monumental Church.
