Unprofitable Business.
In the last number of La Vigilant published at Donaldsonville, we notice the withdrawal from the Know Nothing party of Mr. Amedeo Leblanc. Mr. L., says he joined the K. N. party in Baton Rouge, and desires Messrs. Morehead & Co., editors of La Vigilant, to say that "he perceives that the only party sustaining the Constitution and the interest of my Native State is the Democratic party, I withdraw from said K. N. party, and shall henceforth vote the Democratic ticket."
This appears to us very unprofitable business just now. There is no election at hand—nothing to be lost or won and the gain of one side is equivalent to the loss of the other—both amount to nothing.
There will be no change in political principles of "The Shelby News," so long as we are its Editor and Proprietor. The American Union, American interests, and the sole right of Americans to rule and control, and make laws for the American Union—"one and inseparable—now and forever"—will be steadfastly maintained and upheld, with all the ability we possess. Having nailed our flag to the masthead, sixteen years ago, we are determined it shall remain there; that all may know we comprehend our rights, and are neither ashamed nor afraid to maintain them, with all the energy God has endowed us. It shall not be our fault, if the American cause is unsuccessful, and the American people enslaved by foreign influence and native demagoguism.
