Hold First Classes In New School

South Pascagoula School Officially Occupied Today.

The new elementary school located on Lincoln avenue will be open for classes today. Thursday was taken up with the transfer of equipment and books and no school was held in the elementary grades.

The schedule in the lower grades will continue to be on two-shift basis in each of the elementary schools with approximately 600 students attending the new school and 750 pupils remaining in the Central school, Thomas R. Wells, superintendent of schools in Pascagoula, announced.

The total enrollment in the elementary grades totaled 1,321 at the end of the fifth month. The new school will accommodate 400 students on the single shift plan and the Central school will accommodate about 480 students on the same basis.

At the present rate of increase both of these schools will be filled to capacity on the double shift schedule before the end of the current school year, Mr. Wells said. School authorities are now taking the necessary steps to provide additional school housing facilities here.

The new enrollment during the week, as of Thursday noon, was 25 students in the elementary school and 13 in the high school.

Miss Kathleen Kell, formerly principal of the Central school will serve as supervising principal of both schools and for the remainder of the year she will have her office in the South Pascagoula school building. Mrs. Annie Lee Painter, a 4th grade teacher in the Pascagoula school system for several years, has been named vice-principal and will have headquarters in the Central school.

Division Line

The shifts will operate during the same hours with the morning shift attending school from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the afternoon group having classes from 12:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The student body has been divided so that children living south of Lincoln avenue will attend the South Pascagoula school and the remainder will continue at the Central school. A number of new faculty members have been added recently.

Teachers in the South Pascagoula school are: first grade, Mrs. E. H Bacot. Miss Katherine Brash Mrs. Jone Trouty. Mrs. J. R. Bess who has recently moved here from Lake Charles. La., where she taught for a number of years second. Mrs. J. C. McLeod Miss Eather Horne. Mrs. K Hi. Gentry. third, Miss Zoe Belle Cox, Mrs Suellen Wood: fourth. Mrs O. L. Harris. Miss Dorothy Em mit: fifth. Miss Kathleen Hays Mrs. W. H Holder: sixth. Mrs Arthur Smith. Mrs. Kenneth Pin nell A fourth grade teacher will be added immediately, Mr. Wells said.
