Drive Under Way to Finance Work For 1940; Donations From Public Are Being Requested by Solicitors.
Six teams took to the field in the business section of Henderson today to call on prospects for the underwriting of a $500 program for the work of the Boy Scouts for 1940. It is hoped that the work could be completed in a very short time.
In a recent meeting of the Scout council here, at which time officers were elected for the year, it was decided to put on the campaign for funds, in view of the improbability that the community chest would function for 1940, and as the scout work was included in that agency.
Clarence E. Greene is the new council president. A number of other officers were elected at the recent meeting. Mr. Greene was leading today's solicitation of funds and was anxious to have the program underwritten as early as possible.
There are two troops of Boy Scouts in Henderson, and the new officers hope to add one or two more during the year.
A portion of the money that is now being sought is to be used for payment of dues and costs to the State and national scout organizations. The rest will be expended for various purposes of the group at home.
All solicitors in today's drive were being urged to make their calls promptly and to report the result of their work to the chairman so that a check could be made of the progress of the campaign.
