RIVERS IN ALABAMA.—The Grove Hill (Ala.)
Recorder of the 18th inst. has the following para-
graph in relation to the rivers:

Our rivers may be considered as closed for the
present. The Jim is the only boat on the Bigbee,
and she cannot get over the shoals without the aid
of a flat or barge. We are informed that she is
charging $2 per barrel freight and $2 50 for cotton.
There are some four boats on the Alabama, all of
which are compelled to carry barges or flats for the
purpose of lighting over the shoals. If this weather
continues long, the rivers will be lower than they
were ever known before. No business is doing in
Mobile in consequence of the state of the rivers.
