Outrage On an American Flag.—The editors of the N. Y. Gazette have received a letter from Mazatlan, Gulf of California, stating that an outrage had been committed on the brig Danube, Cook, of New-York. In consequence this affair the house of the American Consul, J. Lenox Kennedy, Esq. was in danger of being plundered from the falsehoods circulated by the Deputy Captain when he came on shore. Our Consul was engaged in taking the declarations of the eye witnesses of the affray, in order to bring the authors to punishment. It was attempted to justify the attack on the Danube on the ground that she had contraband goods on board; but Capt. Cook, at the request of the Consul, permitted another search to clear himself of the suspicion. A young lad, son of Capt. O'Brien, of New-York, who was on board the D. behaved in the most gallant manner, attacking half a dozen armed soldiers and driving them all overboard.

From the letter, dated Aug. 25, it appears that the Danube was attacked on the evening of the 22d, in that harbor by a body of soldiers and civilians armed with sabres and muskets, headed by Jose Maria Garcia, Deputy Captain of the port, and Jean Maria Ramirez Intendente of that place. The D. had been regularly visited by the Authorities and cleared by the Custom House Capt. C. then went ashore to settle his accounts with the Consul and to inform the Captain of the port that he should sail that evening. The latter told him in presence of the Consul, that it was only necessary to make a pedimento in writing, and he would be despatched. Five minutes afterwards the two ringleaders assembled their forces, took forcible possession of Capt. C's boat, left on the beach in charge of a seaman, and in company with a cappe went on board the Danube. Capt. C. being apprized of this, sought another boat, and requested the Consul to ascertain if the force was sent by the competent authorities. The Consul could not account for the extraordinary proceeding, nor learn that the Alcade or Superior of the Custom House knew of it. He then went on board with the Captain to explain, to avoid unpleasant consequences. Being alongside, they found the decks covered with armed men, who had taken the ladder from the gangway. Capt. C. succeeded in getting on board, although opposed by muskets. The Consul in following was peremptorily forbidden by the Captain of the port to leave the boat.—Capt. C. finding the Consul of his nation forbidden to lend his assistance, and having been taken hold of by the Deputy Captain, in a threatening attitude on his quarter deck, without explanation; called his men aft, and gave orders to arm and defend the vessel, and a scuffle ensued, at the beginning of which the two ringleaders fled to the boat alongside. In 5 minutes the crew of the D eight in number, cleared the decks of the 25 assailants, killing one and wounding ten others. All the crew, excepting the captain, were more or less hurt.
