Twelve Join NAACP As Life Members

NEW YORK - Eleven persons and a club last week made initial or full payments on life memberships in the NAACP. In addition, eight individuals, two organizations, a labor union, and four local units of the NAACP contributed funds to the Association's Fight for Freedom campaign.

The Fight for Freedom campaign aims to free America from race discrimination and segregation by Jan. 1, 1963, the centennial of the Emancipation Proclamation.

William Sherrill of New York City and George A. Beavers of Los Angeles paid $500 each to become life members of the Association.

Kelly Alexander, Charlotte, N. C., president of North Carolina state conference and member of the NAACP board of directors made the final payment on his life membership.

Initial payments on life memberships were received from: Dr. Joseph A. Berry, Tuskegee, Ala.; Dr. Myra Logan, New York City; Mrs. Rosemarie Gaines, New York City; the Bower Bridge Club, Inc., New York City; and George G. Smith, W. L. Stevens, P J. Taylor, Paul R. Williams, Lowell C. Moore, the Rev. Arthur A. Peters, the Rev. E. A. Anderson, and Alfred Bloomingdale, all of Los Angeles.

Individuals and organizations who contributed funds to the Fight for Freedom were: the Student Body Government of the University of Florida, Coral Gables, Fla., $150.00; the Metropolitan Funeral System Association, Detroit, $100.00; Mrs. L. K. Ampacher, Purchase, N. Y. $50.00; Mrs. Richard J. Bernhard, New York City, $50.00; Miss Elizabeth Mullins, Cincinnati, Ohio $25.00.

Miss Sarah B. Chisholm, Brooklyn, N. Y. $10.00; Thomas B. Dyett, New York City, $9.50; Miss Betty B. Ames, Cincinnati, Ohio. $5.00; the Louisville Plumbers and Gas Fitter's Union, Local 107, Louisville, Ky., $5.00; Miss Mary Frances Bohm, Cincinnati, Ohio, $2.00; and Mitchell A Greene, New Orleans La, $1.00.

NAACP local units contributed funds as follows: San Antonio, Tex. youth council, $150.00; Three Rivers, Mich $100.00; Far Rockaway, N. Y. $25.00; and Alton, Ill., $1.05.

The total received for the week was $2,783.00.
