Similar Story Told about Kiddo of Some Boys of Tarrytown

TARRYTOWN, June 20.—Several weeks ago a dark-complexioned man of slight build, wearing spectacles and giving his name as R. W. Nason, came to Tarrytown. He paid much attention, it is said, to boys he met in rambles about town, and soon had a large acquaintance among lads ranging from 8 to 18 years. To these boys, it is alleged, he said he was very wealthy. He took down in writing minute descriptions of the boys and the circumstances of their parents. Soon he had many of the boys, it is alleged, under his control, and they had almost resolved to band themselves together and go as a crew upon a flat-bottomed "catboat" which he purchased from Mr. Delaney, the boat keeper near the Hudson River Railroad station. He offered to give any one of the boys who would raise $25 part ownership in the craft.

Alfred Wilson, a son of the Rev. F. I. Wilson of the Asbury M. E. Church, a son of grocer Ensolko, a son of Mr. Fay, a hardware merchant, and other lads are authority for these stories about Nason. Nason appeared to have the greatest influence over little Eddie D. Jewbray, who is about 12 years old. On Saturday the boy was sent to make a purchase, he met Nason, it is said, and he has not been seen since. His father, A. G. Jewbray, Superintendent of the Tarrytown flour mill, informed a Sun reporter last evening that he was convinced his son was with Nason, and that the lad had been kidnapped. The boat was traced yesterday up the Hudson above Newburgh. Telegrams have been sent to all mariners, and police assistance has been invoked. The boy is tall for his age, and at the time of his disappearance he wore a brown checked suit, low-cut shoes, and brown corduroy skull cap. He took with him about $16 in money.
