UNJUST TO PERTH AMBOY.
At the meeting of the Board of Trade in New Brunswick recently Edward F. Trefz, field secretary of the United States Chamber of Commerce, repeated the statement he made here a short time ago, to the effect that all he had ever heard about Perth Amboy was that one could sell milk here that was excluded from New York. Following Mr. Trefz's address here the EVENING NEWS explained how that report originated and further showed that the person who started it had denied that he had any direct evidence to prove that it is true. On the contrary, there is every reason to believe that it would be impossible to dispose of any but the highest grade milk in this city, thanks to the efficiency of the health department.
But it is not doing Perth Amboy any good to have Mr. Trefz going about the country discrediting this city in such a manner and keeping alive a chance remark made by a government official in New York without any evidence whatever to back his statement.
If Mr. Trefz must use Perth Amboy in this manner in order to illustrate the point he desires to bring out, the least he can do, in justice to this city, is to conclude by saying that he has since found that the report regarding the sale here of New York's condemned milk is not true. Perth Amboy is a member of the National Chamber of Commerce and it ill becomes the field secretary of that organization to go about the country holding us up to contempt and ridicule before every civic body in the land.
