Some Knockdowns in the Chicago Republican Convention—Grant In the Minority.
Chicago, 10.—The county delegate convention, this morning, resulted in several knockdowns, on account of Grant men claiming the right to dictate respecting the nomination of chairman, and the police were obliged to interfere. Anti-third term delegates then organized the convention, and Grant men immediately bolted.
It is regarded as significant that Grant men consider his chance in Illinois desperate. They will send a delegation to Springfield to contest. It is understood that Grant managers sent word to the coalition this morning that unless they were permitted a share of the delegates to Springfield, the state convention would instruct for Grant. Word was returned that such action could not be better, because Grant would only have a minority in the state convention.
