Stirring, Camp Show Is Hailed By 10th Cavalry
LOS ANGELES (ANP)—Although they have been organized only a short time Harold Browning's all-colored camp show has caused glowing accounts of their success to be received by the Hollywood Victory committee which sent them out. Specializing in the camps occupied by colored soldiers they have brought them badly needed entertainment that tended to relieve the strenuous grind of training routine.
Headed by Browning internationally famous singer who barely escaped with his family from Europe at the outbreak of the war the company includes Thomas Anderson, his business manager; the "Three Shades of Rhythm," (girls); Hattie Knowles, comedy star; Ford, Harris and Jones, dance team; Myrt and Vi dance team; Lucius Smith and Alice Haynes jitterbug team; and Lady Will-Carr, highly talented pianist.
One of their most outstanding successes was at Camp Lockett in a pre-Christmas presentation. Not only the crack 10th Cavalry stationed there, but visiting servicemen from other camps cheered the show to the echo, and voted it one of the finest ever.
This is the first regular organized company sent out from western headquarters with an all-Negro personnel, but according to the victory committee more are to follow in the new year.
