Full Text

POETRY.

For the RHODE-ISLAND REPUBLICAN.

A POEM,
COMPARING
MEN TO STARS.

By Astronomers, the stars are viewed,
With spangling lustre, and their magnitude,
So men like stars, in their own orbits move,
Some dim, some bright, as shine the stars above.
And like to stars, of the first magnitude,
Astronomers through Telescopes have viewed
That shine so bright, that lighten all around.
So some bright men, among mankind are found,
For virtue, talents, genius, merit, praise,
And like to comets in their circles blaze,
So Homer, Virgil, Pope and Milton shone,
Franklin, Jefferson, and a WASHINGTON.
