NEW YORK, Dec. 11 (INS)—FBI agents made arrangements today to transfer to Detroit Giachino (Jack) Baccolla, a "disarmingly quiet man" who was listed among the nation's ten "most wanted criminals."
Baccolla, who despite his appearance was labeled by the FBI as "an extremely dangerous criminal who may kill without the slightest provocation," was arrested last night as he walked into a Broadway office building.
The one-time east side hoodlum, who was listed last August on the "Ten most wanted" series distributed by International News Service, surrendered without a struggle to the FBI men who closed in on him.
He said simply, "I surrender."
Baccolla, who had disguised himself with a neatly cropped mustache and horn-rimmed glasses, will be taken to Detroit to face charges of murder and obstruction of justice as the paid killer of a jeweler who turned State's evidence in a $27,000 photo film theft.
The jeweler, Albert A. Swartz, was ambushed and shot to death last May 17 as he drove into his garage. A month before his murder Swartz had pleaded guilty to an interstate shipment of the film and offered to testify against two other men involved, Kenneth C. Gordon and Kenneth McCleod, who since have been sent to prison.
