Montana oil scouts returning from Calgary report that the new strike at Brazeau structure in the northern foothills, 150 miles northwest of Calgary, may be another Turner Valley. promising a new and important source of crude. It is in the over-thrust area, similar to the many structures in Montana along the east face of the Rocky Mountains.
Home Oil company's wildcat in LSD 16. 7-43-17W5 has naptha gas in a 9.000.000 cu. ft. flow. together with some 56 gravity crude. This gas is coming from three formations between 8160 and 8550 feet.
The well drilled into the fault and was bridged back to the Kootenai formation., corresponding to the Cut Bank horizon, after the drill had gone back into the Blairmore formation, which is the surface formation in Turner Valley.
The gas was cased off as drilling proceeded and then later opened up by gun perforation. Home has 87,000 acres leased along the 45-mile fold paralleling the mountains.
Additional drilling will be done by Home to determine the extent of the pool and the nature of the overthrust fold.
