Full Text

Crop of the West.—Advices from the crop throughout West and South are growing more favorable. In the western portion of Ohio, including Miami and Scioto counties, and all the north eastern part of that State, the corn crop promises well and will yield a full crop. In the northern portion of Indiana and Illinois, the crop is also good, and the same remarks as will apply Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, and the northern part of Missouri. From the south states the advices are very encouraging, so far taking the whole West together, there is no cause for alarm, nor is there much safety in speculations based upon a failure of the corn crop. We hear of no place, however, where the potato crop is good, or even middling.

In Central Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, and in South Kentucky and the north-west part of Tennessee, eastern portion of Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, there is no doubt that the drought has proved very disastrous to corn and potatoes, and in these sections there will be a scarcity.
