St. Christophers, Feb 7. Some gentlemen arrived here yesterday, who sailed from Guadaloupe the day before. - They left the troops in very good spirits. It is said, that the most advanced posts of the army was about 5 miles from Basse-terre : That the Governor of the island, with all the people he could assemble, was intrenched at the Dieudonne : That a detachment of the army, commanded by brigadier general Haldane, having attacked a post of very difficult access, it had been carried, with the loss of 22 men killed, and about 40 wounded ; but that the French had suffered much more considerably. Lieut. Plaistow, of Col. Ross's regiment, and an officer, whose name was M'Lane, are said to be among the killed.
