Full Text

John Van Buren has given the rebels a severe kick. Last fall he was lenient toward them, at a later day he sent them propositions for peace and reconstruction. These the rebels utterly refused, and Prince John takes it in high dudgeon, and at a democratic meeting the other night he surprised them all by going in for the war till the rebels were put down. He didn't seem even to have tenderness about slavery. The rest of the old democratic snakes were perfectly dumbfounded, and of course are preparing to read him out of the democratic party.
