Full Text

CINCINNATI, OHIO, SEPT. 22.

The steam boat packet General Pike, was launched yesterday afternoon from the ship yard of Mr. Brooks of this place. The Gen. Pike is owned by a company of gentlemen in this town, and is intended as a regular packet between Louisville and Maysville. A new steam boat from Wheeling passed the ship yard just before the launch.

There are now more than 20 steam boats on the Ohio and Mississippi, and half that number on the stocks. Ten years ago the prediction of such an era in our commerce would have been considered the dream of a visionary theorist.

Until the obstructions are removed at the falls, Cincinnati can derive but little benefit from the facilities of steam navigation.
