Boston, May 31.

The constituted authorities of the state of Massachusetts, yesterday assembled together at the state House, and the following gentlemen were elected state officers for the current year:—

[The Senate, as usual, proceeded to organize their department of the government; but after a number of trials, they found it necessary to adjourn, for the forenoon, without coming to a choice of President.]

In the House, the hon. Perez Morton was chosen speaker, and C. P. Sumner, esq. Clerk. The whole number of votes for speaker was 631, of which Mr. Morton had 326, and was declared to be chosen. The votes for Clerk was SIX HUNDRED THIRTY TWO, of which Mr. Sumner had 326, and was accordingly chosen. The following is the statement of votes.

For Speaker

For Clerk

The Legislature joined by the governor and council, were escorted by the Independent Cadets under Lt. Col Williams, to the First Church in Sumner-street (the rev. Mr. Emerson's) where a discourse was delivered before them by the rev. Dr Parish of Byefield. Salutes were fired during the march by the artillery company commanded by captain Nye.

When the religious duties of the day had terminated, the procession returned to the State House, and adjourned to meet at five o'clock, P. M.

Afternoon.

Agreeably to adjournment, the two houses met in their respective chambers. The Senate again proceeded to choice of a president; but on counting the votes, they were found to be the same as in seven successive trials, during the balloting in the forenoon, viz:

The whole number was 38—Mr. Otis did not vote after the first trial; but Mr. Dana continued voting during the whole ballot.

After this unsuccessful attempt, a motion was made to proceed to the choice of a Clerk, but was negatived. The hon. Mr. Phillips then made a motion to adjourn to this day eleven o'clock, which after some discussion (in the course of which, a proceeding was suggested of placing the senior member in the chair as president pro tem.) was carried.
