HAVANA.—By the schooner Repeater, arrived
at Baltimore in 9 days from Havana, we have a
letter from our correspondent under date of the
21st December, which says:— We have now in
port fourteen ships, forty brigs, and fourteen
schooners. The U. S. schooner Porpoise, cap-
tain Percival is the only vessel of the American
squadron now in port; the rest are at Matanzas.
The brig Mary Jane, and barque Philetus from
New York, and a Dutch barque from Buenos
Ayres arrived here yesterday. The latter has a
cargo of about 600 quintals of jerked beef, with
which she will leave the port and probably re-
turn after the 1st January, in order to avail her-
self of the new duty which will probably be 20
per cent less than that now paid. A cargo of
excellent quality from Montevideo, 1060 qqs.
sold lately at 7 rials per qal.
Neither the Emily nor the Virginia from
Baltimore has yet arrived.
The holy days just commencing, will sus-
pend business for some time. Flour is worth
31½; lard 14 cts; sperm candles, $36 per qq!—
Whale, sperm and linseed oils are scarce and
high. Exchange on London, 15 per cent. prem.
— on the U. States, 8 a 8½; dollars 7 per cent.
