County Clerk Prepares Official Canvass for Commissioners: Justices, Constables, Close Check of complete Imperial county returns from the general election Tuesday was finished Saturday by County Clerk W. J. McClellan and his staff. The board of supervisors will canvass the ballots at their meeting Monday.
Differences from the incomplete returns were slight and did not change the list of victorious candidates or the winning and losing propositions.
Imperial county's only race was for public administrator. In this race Milton Zinn polled 4,540, Roy Breedlove 2,130, James Munn 1,661 and Fred Rapson 679.
The big battle for Winterhaven justice of the peace ended in victory for T. E. White, incumbent, who polled 551 votes to 349 for Tom Adams. Lawton Porter was reelected constable of the Winterhaven district with a vote of 483. His opponent, Roy Whitmore, polled 420.
At Westmorland Lester Cochran was reelected constable, with 259 votes, while John Miller received 240.
Carlton Morford was elected constable of Holtville, with 620 votes. Joel Priest received 560.
Wilmot White received 358 votes to win the race for constable at Calipatria. Edward H. Thetford received 289.
County for Merriam
In the gubernatorial race Imperial county gave Merriam 6,115 votes, Culbert Olson 5,352. Haight 195 and Noble 127.
Philip Bancroft received 5,440. Sheridan Downey 5,371 and Lillian Clements 142 votes for U. S. senate.
In the secondary state contest the vote for Frank C. Jordan was 9,563, for Leo Gallagher 348 and Nellie Harris 374.
For lieutenant governor Walter Franklin received 5,415. Ellie Patterson 934 and Geneve Shaffer 785.
Earl Warren, attorney general, received 7,802, Barry Kegley 612 and Claude A. Watson 397.
The county gave Harry B. Riley 9,546 votes for controller. Pritchard 4,566 and Whitney 213. William G. Bonelli, representative of the fourth district, board of equalization, 9,429. Perry 349.
The vote for Ed V. Izac was 6,286 for congressman and Bacon, 4,213.
Clarence Walker, unopposed for assembly, received 8,701 votes.
