"Fort Stoddert, (M. T.) April 28.

Various reports from Pensacola, which I think entitled to credit, say, that a project was lately formed by several Spaniards at that place, to Massacre the French inhabitants--but one of them having got drunk: exposed the project, and by a timely interference of the Governor ad interim, Colo. Maxent, the outrage was averted.-- One of our officers, returned from Mobile yesterday informs me that the French inhabitants both at Pensacola and Mobile consider themselves extremely unsafe-- that constant patroles are kept up during the night at both places. Col. Maxent is himself a Frenchman, a Creole of Louisiana, on whose person the first attack was to have been made."
