Worcester:
Wednesday, March 1, 1826.

Post-Offices.
We have been favored with the annual return made by the Postmaster General to Congress, of the nett amount of revenue accruing from each of the Post-Offices in the United States, after deducting the Postmaster's compensation, &c.
From the return, we have selected a list of the Post-Offices in this County, believing it will be gratifying to the curiosity of many of our readers.
They will, we believe, with us, be surprised to find, that, although there are two Post-Offices in Leicester, yet the one in the village pays more than twice as much as any other Office in the County, except that in Worcester, and nearly three times as much as any except those of Worcester and Lancaster. We have been led to notice this fact, more particularly in consequence of a discussion which has recently taken place in one of the Boston papers, relative to the granting of new Bank charters, in which the Committee on Banks was censured for reporting in favor of a charter for one at Leicester, and rejecting petitions for them in several other places.
The ground of objection was, that there was no business in Leicester to support a Bank.
We are aware that the amount of postage accruing at different Offices is no certain test of the relative business of the places. Yet, it must be evident, that, under ordinary circumstances, a large amount will not accrue unless there is considerable business to occasion it.
