Leaf Variety Is Explained To Young Farmers

Advantages of a new tobacco seed variety were explained last night at the regular monthly meeting of the Tabor City Young Farmers Club, meeting at the Agriculture Building.

Dr. C. H. Rogers, of Coker's Pedigreed Seed Company, Hartsville, S. C., was the guest speaker.

In a presentation to about 50 members of the club, Dr. Rogers spoke of the new variety O-X which his company has developed which will go on the market next week.

It was pointed out that anyone who has grown the Hicks variety can grow O-X and that the similarities between the two are numerous.

Dr. Rogers said that O-X contains about two-tenths of a percent more nicotine than Hicks, that there are four or five more leaves on the stalk of the O-X, and that yield is from 10 to 20 percent higher.

Appearance of the O-X leaf is similar to that of Hicks, and harvesting is unchanged.

A tour of the Coker Farm is now being planned by the club for next June.
